Installation Instructions

  1. Please provide your first and last name and your email on the form below the FAQ and click “Request Download”.
  2. Check your email and download the zip file to your computer.
  3. Right click on the downloaded zip and “Extract All” the contents to a folder on your computer.
  4. Navigate to the contents of the folder you just created and double-click on “J2SP.Sizer.exe”.
  5. If you are running this on Windows 10, you may get a dialog entitled “Windows protected your PC”.  Click “More info” and ensure that the publisher is “” and if so, click “Run anyway.”
  6. Provide data entry for the following items.
    1. URL: Enter the primary URL for your Jive environment
    2. User Account (Note: This account must have the ability to “view” all Jive places)
    3. Password: Enter the Jive password associated with the User Account setting above
    4. Select/Deselect the options:
      1. Include Personal Content – this is off by default.  If you choose this, it will take considerably longer to pull these counts as the Jive API does not provide an easy way to get the information.
      2. Use Parallel Processing – having this checked speeds up the process and is recommended unless there are problems.
      3. Log Activity – this can be useful to ThreeWill if you send them your logs along with your data.
  7. Click the “BEGIN” button.  The utility will fetch all of the Jive places (spaces, groups, projects, blogs) within your Jive instance.  This usually takes a few minutes, but if you have a lot of places it can take an hour or more.
  8. Click the “Fetch Contents” button.  The utility will fetch all of the contents within the places.  This can take considerable time if you have a lot of content (potentially days).  It can pick up where it left off if you need to cancel this part-way through.
    1. If you choose to include personal content the time can be doubled, or more, depending on how many people you have in the organization.  After fetching place content, it will fetch all of the Jive accounts, then fetch the content for each of those accounts.
  9. Click the “View Report” and then:
    1. Export to CSV – this will save a CSV file of the contents shown in the report that you can share with ThreeWill and others via email.
    2. Send to ThreeWill – this will securely send the results to ThreeWill.  You fill in your name and email so we know how to contact you.  If you choose the Include Logs option on the dialog, then any logs created while running the utility and the physical database created will be sent to ThreeWill.
  10. If you did not choose the Send to ThreeWill option above, you can Request a Free estimate and provide the exported CSV along with other details.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What kind of computer can I run the utility on?

A Windows operating system with .NET version 4.5 or greater.  This includes Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2016.  We recommend you have at least 8 GB of RAM and a dual-core CPU.

  • How long does it take to run the utility?

It can take a few hours to a few days depending on how powerful the machine you are running on and how much content you have.  We have seen a client with 600,000 content items take several days, but most clients have less than 200,000 content items and it only takes a day or two.   The utility can pick up where it left off, but it is best to let it run overnight.

  • What account do I need to use to log in with the utility?

You need to use an account that has permission to read from all Jive places.   Ideally, this is a Jive administrator account.

  • Can I use a federated account to connect to the utility?

No.  You must use a “local” Jive account.  The utility cannot connect to Jive via an account that is authenticated through ADFS or any other federated identity provider.

  • Does this utility update or create any Jive content?

No.  It only reads content.

  • What content does the utility store?

It stores counts of each content type from each Jive place into a database within the current folder where the utility is extracted.

  • Does this utility store my password?

  • Does any data go across the network unencrypted?

No, as long as the URL you provide for Jive begins with “https” it will be encrypted over the wire.  The data stored locally in the folder where the utility is run is not encrypted.

  • Does this utility transmit any data?

Not without your explicit permission.  Once the data is collected locally and you generate the report you can choose if you want to create a CSV file which you can email to ThreeWill or you can click on a Send to ThreeWill button which will securely transmit it directly to ThreeWill.

  • What is 2901?

This shows up in the report.  A 2901 is what Jive uses to call content that is shared from one Jive place to another.  The original content is a document, discussion, or whatever, but any share of that content is 2901.

  • What is 106642994?

This shows up in the report.  A 106642994 is what Jive uses to call a custom content type that is a photo within a photo album.  Most Jive instances co not have any of these.
